History will always remember the time when plastic was introduced. Why is this so? Because these compounds are incredible. Plastic is a material that is widely used for making a large range of products that are manufactured in both domestic and commercial industries. Kitchen utensils, household appliances, toys, fittings, furniture and gadgets all use plastic in one form or another.
Despite its extensible usage, plastic has a major drawback. It is not biodegradable and does not decompose with time. Unfortunately, such items that are composed of plastic often get dumped into the water and can lead to a very alarming situation. A recent research has estimated that almost a million ocean fish and other underwater creatures die simply because huge amounts of plastics are thrown out into the oceans across the globe.
Perhaps the impact on the environment is the prime reason that the importance of the recycling industry has surged. After all, the environment must be protected and preserved at all costs no matter how hard or extensive the efforts have to be made. Pollution has to be lessened and the health risks have to be minimized. All these things increase only when effective waste management is not practiced, which results in not only a mess but in the spread of different diseases as well.
According to stats, almost 25 trillion cups made from plastic are binned per year. Unfortunately, these cups do not degrade and their quantities just increase, which impacts the environment negatively. As such, plastic should be recycled properly. In fact, recycling it requires almost one third less energy than burning it, which makes it more preferable. This leads to a conversion of natural energy resources.
There are several facilities where plastic is recycled in huge quantities on a daily basis. The items which are recycled the most are water bottles, cups and wrappers. Establishing these units has not only played a role in preserving the environment but has also generated employment opportunities.
Plastic which is recycled is available at a lower cost, and is utilized by many industries and allows them to reduce their materials costs as well. Polyester carpets, flower pots, lumber and automobile bumpers are some products which are manufactured from recycled plastic.
Thus, plastic is being recycled in increased quantities so that both citizens and the environment can benefit.
