Did you know that lack of awareness and interest is ruining the environment? People do not understand how important it is to recycle and they simply throw things away without even considering the implications behind their carelessness. Landfill sites are overflowing, floods keep increasing and the aquatic life is becoming more and more affected, just because recycling is considered to be something that we do not require. The truth of the matter is, without proper recycling programs and initiatives, there will come a time when pollution will spread to a point where humans will find they have no place to survive.
The most important thing to consider though is this, is recycling something that only the government needs to be worried about? Isn’t every individual responsible for the safety of the world? Shouldn’t every person think about their actions in daily life and purposefully ensure that they play their part to improve the rapidly deteriorating world? But how can recycling be made the norm? Below are some simple steps that can help you in adopting the culture of recycling.
Recycling E-Waste
Considered to be one of the biggest and ever increasing forms of waste, technology needs to be recycled because it is becoming the main source of increasing landfill sites. Electronic devices produce toxic chemicals that are absorbed by the ground and then used in drinking water. According to the EPA, the American nation throws away about 2 million tons of e-waste each year.
What you can do is, instead of throwing away the junk, give it back to the manufacturing company. Make sure you remove any batteries and send them away separately. Whenever you buy batteries, choose ones that are rechargeable so their purchase is minimized.
Recycling Paper Waste
Another major concern and the number one reason for increased number of floods each year is the wastage of paper. The best way to avoid this is to decrease the use of paper. Instead opt for electronic devices. Make sure that the notebooks you do use are not thrown away with any blank pages. Whether at home or the office, keep a recycling bin so that all the thrown away paper is recycled for further usage.
Recycling Glass
There are many glass jars that are discarded as being useless. But you can easily use them for storage purposes. You can store spices, oil, and homemade food items in them. If you still cannot find a need for them, wash them and send them to a glass recycling factory.
Recycling Plastic
Plastic is also a major concern for environmentalists because it is non-biodegradable. This means that they do not decompose and block many pathways, water sources and mostly end up polluting the ocean. The easiest way to recycle plastic is to keep a separate recycling basket where you throw all useless plastic. This way it is sent to the right industry for recycling.
Get Everyone Involved
At home, the office and among your friends, get people to participate in the recycling initiative. Do some research about it and explain the hazards of not becoming involved and taking precautions. If you have children, help them understand by becoming active yourself!
