Power Storage: A Look into the Future

There are so many homes in the country that have reverted to solar power for their electrical consumption needs, and every year, the numbers are increasing rapidly. According to a recent report, almost 400 GW to 600 GW of additional solar power can be installed at a residential level until the year 2020.

Solar power is a great way to produce energy considering the fact that the environment does not suffer from any harm. The only downside is that these systems fail to work if there is no sunlight, and so they cannot be utilized at night. This problem has already caught the attention of a lot of researches and many different technologies have been suggested to solve it.

Advanced battery systems are being developed that can be used by both residential and commercial sectors. These battery systems are capable of storing solar energy, and will help consumers in decreasing both their bills and costs.

A battery system utilizes a dual-use inverter that converts DC current degenerated by the solar system into AC current and supplies this to the electrical distribution system, which regulates the frequency of the grid. As long as the battery is connected to a solar system, it can operate even if it is not on the grid.

Should there ever be a power outage in the future, a solar battery can be very useful and provide you with enough electricity to operate all your appliances for at least 48 hours. If the system is installed in a proper manner the battery can provide indefinite power.

A solar battery system has other advantages as well such as the increased level of control it can provide to users. As an example, there are many companies that have now implemented the variable pricing techniques, which imply that power is priced differently at varying hours of the day. As such, during the peak hours, the incurred costs are higher and at other times, they are lower. Thus, users can store power when the rates are low. When prices are high, the system can be disconnected from the grid and stored power can be utilized.

The industry experts believe that the future will see an increased use of battery subsystems, primarily because they subdue the effect of solar systems. Moreover, they provide a very efficient method of controlling and using the grid energy.
